How to Keep Your Kids Calm at the Dentist

Anxiety when visiting the dentist is quite common among children and adults. If you will be taking your child to the dentist soon, or have a child on the way and want to plan ahead, here are some tips to help you and your child prepare for your visit.

Start Young

If your child thinks of dental visits as an ordinary thing, they're less likely to get anxious. Do some research before choosing a dentist, that way you're less likely to change providers and your child can benefit from the consistency.

Play Pretend

Some role playing can get your child ready for their visit. You can take turns being the patient and the dentist so that your child can see both sides of the activity. Reinforce positive things that happen at the dentist, such as having no cavities.

Avoid Bribery

The trouble with bribes is they become expected and tend to increase. This is not a good habit to get your child into. Since some whining can be expected, just roll with it and try to be understanding.

Getting your kid to the dentist is no easy task, but these tips should make it a little easier. With some preparation, maybe your next dental visit will go more smoothly. To find a kids dentist in Apex, try this website.
