3 Ways to Keep Kids Calm at the Dentist

Taking your child to the dentist for regular checkups is an important part of creating good oral health habits. Unfortunately, many children are afraid of the dentist; however, by using these tips, you may be able to help your son or daughter have a more relaxed experience.

Hold Hands or Use Your Lap

Depending on the dentist and whether your child is having a routine checkup or needs a procedure done, you may be able to hold him or her on your lap or hold hands while the work is being done. Talk to the dentist beforehand to see if the situation will allow for you to be that close to the chair without being in the way.

Give Your Child Earbuds

Many dentists will allow children to hold phones or tablets and use earbuds to help distract them. If you go this route for your child, it is recommended to stick to favorite music and not TV shows. This will prevent too much movement while the dentist is trying to work.

Find a Pediatric Dentist

Some dentists have been specially trained to work with children, meaning they have learned coping mechanisms for helping scared kids calm down. A trained pediatric dentist is more likely to help your child remain comfortable.

As your child gets older, the dentist will be less scary. If you’re interested in a kids dentist in Apex, visit this website for information.
